Music Ministry
The Moravian Church has a long music tradition, and there are many ways to serve in the Music Ministry at Emmaus Moravian. Music plays a vital role in our worship services, but it is also a way to connect with each other at rehearsals and is a way to share your talents with the church. Martha Cox Popichak, our director of music, can help you select the best way to use your talents. The Sanctuary Choir, age 16 to adult, meets Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., provides choral anthems for most Sunday services September through May. All voice parts are welcome! Christian Education Sunday School - Classes for ages 2 through adults begin at 9:00 a.m. Please ask to be shown to a class for your child and you: Children from Nursery age through Grade 6 Gather Round: Becoming a People of God explores God's word through various activities, art, and music. Youth Class is a class for students Grade 7 through 12. Adult Sunday School: Topical Studies Group “Living with the Old Testament”. A Brief History of the Emmaus Moravian Church The Moravian Church is one of the oldest continuing Protestant denominations. It was founded in 1457 by followers of John Hus, a reformer from Prague, Czechoslovakia who was martyred on July 6, 1415. The Church still officially carries its original Latin name, UNITAS FRATRUM, which means "Unity of the Brethren." The founders of the modern Unitas Fratrum fled from the province of MORAVIA (now part of the Czech Republic) into Saxony in Germany, where under the leadership of Count Zinzendorf, the Brethren completely reorganized the ancient UNITY in 1722.
