Lend a Hand to Our Senior Care Outreach Ministry

Do you want to make a senior smile or allow them to feel somewhat independent as they shop for themselves or a friend?  It will only take an hour of your time once a month.  Every last Thursday of the month, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Village at Willow Lane in Macungie, our Senior Care Outreach Ministry supplies a hospitality opportunity for the residents to purchase personal hygiene and assorted gifts.  They love the interaction with the volunteers.  I guarantee you will go away smiling!

The ministry itself was started by SONrise Community Church of Macungiem which was a new Moravian Church Plant commissioned in August of 2010. The ministry grew, but the church didn’t. The original rooster of Senior Living Facilities included The Village at Willow Lane, The Commons & Homestead Program (both are Genesis Health Care facilities) and Sarah Care Adult Day Care program in Trexlertown. The Village in Emmaus was added this December 2012.

Each facility is brought a monthly worship service for its resident population. There is a 42-45% participation of residents who attend each worship service. Two of the facilities are also brought a Hospitality store to their site. At the end of each month, residents have the opportunity to purchase personal hygeine products that they typically run out of each month. This activity cultivates their feeling of independence and positive self esteem. It’s loved by all who attend!

Not only is the Gospel brought to the residents on a monthly basis, but they are given Large Print Bibles and Daily Bread Devotionals along with periodic large print bulletins on selected topics such as Lent/Advent/Grace/Forgiveness, etc. All of this is supplemented by private pastoral visits as requested by the residents.
